Two-frequency radiative transfer and asymptotic solution.
Two-frequency radiative transfer (2f-RT) theory is developed for classical waves in random media. Depending on the ratio of the wavelength to the scale of medium fluctuation, the 2f-RT equation is either a Boltzmann-like integral equation with a complex-valued kernel or a Fokker-Planck-like differential equation with complex-valued coefficients in the phase space. The 2f-RT equation is used to ...
متن کاملReversible state transfer between light and a single trapped atom.
We demonstrate the reversible mapping of a coherent state of light with a mean photon number (-)n approximately equal to 1.1 to and from the hyperfine states of an atom trapped within the mode of a high-finesse optical cavity. The coherence of the basic processes is verified by mapping the atomic state back onto a field state in a way that depends on the phase of the original coherent state. Ou...
متن کاملRadiative heat transfer: many-body effects
Heat transfer by electromagnetic radiation is one of the common methods of energy transfer between objects. Using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, we have studied the effect of particle arrangement in the transmission of radiative heat in many-body systems. In order to show the effect of the structure morphology on the collective properties, the radiative heat transfer is studied and the re...
متن کاملBayesian feedback control of a two-atom spin-state in an atom-cavity system.
We experimentally demonstrate real-time feedback control of the joint spin-state of two neutral cesium atoms inside a high finesse optical cavity. The quantum states are discriminated by their different cavity transmission levels. A Bayesian update formalism is used to estimate state occupation probabilities as well as transition rates. We stabilize the balanced two-atom mixed state, which is d...
متن کاملHyperbolicity and critical points in two - moment approximate radiative transfer
We present numerical calculations of spherically symmetric radiative transport using a two-moment (P-1) method with a two-dimensional non-linear closure on the Eddington factor. The stationary state solutions contain a critical point. We demonstrate that the two-moment equations with a non-linear closure are well behaved. The solutions are physically acceptable , regular and accurate.
